Tanzania Mondul Estate Honey Process
Established in 1931, the estate is located in Arusha, in the heart of the Maasai land in Tanzania and is owned by Burka Estates. All staff are provided with housing, with a minimum salary 20% above the government minimum requirement. Staff have social security and union membership included in their contracts. They are also offered advice on education, health and house construction.
Dedicated conservationists sit on the E states Board to uphold the ecology of the local biome. One of the last and certainly the largest indigenous forest in Arusha, Burka Forest, holds the natural spring which first gave Burka its name over 100 years ago. The preservations of these forests has led to a dramatic increase in the diversity and wealth of wildlife in this area. The Estate trains dedicated wildlife wardens to protect and conserve this wildlife.
The natural spring supplies the wet mill where the ripe coffee cherries are processed. The waste cherry pulp is mixed with worms to produce organic fertiliser, which is then re-used on the estates.
